Description
This was yet another one of those "pretties" that has rattled around in my box of stones, waiting for me to do something with it. And yes, the stone looks even better in person.
Not bad for a doublet, eh?
(I also believe this one is man-made as well, from the old Chatham process. However, I'll have to check on that and will update.)
~oldbob cut it several years ago (I hate to think how long) and I immediately grabbed it. However, I must admit I dithered over doing something with it. I just didn't want to turn it into a final gem. You get like that sometimes with stones. To push myself out of that bind, I'll sometimes take stones like this and ask my students to select one for me to wrap. This stone got its final setting thanks to them.
Still...now that it's finished, I think it will stay with me. I love all those wonderful colors!
Opal doublet (man-made opal, Chatham process?); gold-filled square and half-round wire
